The Ring can be considered as a weapon if you think about it. It can be used by the wearer to turn invisible, making it an asset to an attack by giving the element of surprise. It can also be a weapon against the wearer because it does things to their mind. It is like a double edged sword. Most people think of the ring as almost a living object, just because it has so much power. Bilbo does not realize it all, but the ring is transforming him into a more evil person. It uses it's power to keep Bilbo from realizing that he is becoming a worse person. This can hurt him even more because he does not realize the actions that the ring is making him do. This is some of what makes the ring a weapon because of the huge way it can negatively influence people. Gollum is another person who the ring has damaged over time. He has had the ring for so long that his appearance has even been changed from the power of the ring. It has also split his mind into almost two different beings. This is why he is always talking to himself when he is encountered. This makes him appear to be an odd looking creature, and nobody knows what he is. The ring has possessed him to eat Goblins that go too far into the mountain, and he also has a little home in the middle of a subterranean lake.
